TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Two hikers are safe Tuesday, March 21, after they had to be airlifted out of rugged area in the Catalina Mountains, north of Tucson.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says one of its helicopter crews was called out to assist the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

CBP says the hikers became exhausted Monday night and couldn't hike out.  The hikers said they had enough supplies to get through the night.

CBP said it headed out at first light to rescue the hikers.

Customs and Border Protection says paramedics examined the hikers and they were in good health.
