TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Teachers in Tucson's largest school district will be getting an additional pay raise, as the TUSD school board voted unanimously to approve the increase.

Right now, the TUSD school board is meeting at Duffy Community Center to review, approve, and adopt the revised 2016-2017 employee agreement between TUSD and the Tucson Education Association, the union representing TUSD teachers.

TEA president Jason Freed, who was part of the negotiation process, tells Tucson News Now the proposed pay raise is $1,300 for all of TUSD's 3,000 certified teachers.

That breaks down to about $108 per month for 12 months. This amount is supposed to hold true even if Prop 123 doesn't pass.

TUSD spokesperson Stefanie Boe tells Tucson News Now this would be the district's third teacher pay raise in a row. Last year, teachers received extra money in Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 totaling about $1,000.

Superintendent H.T. Sanchez said last week that the extra money to pay teachers would be coming from central office cuts and streamlining departments.

Maria Hechanova is at the TUSD school board meeting. She'll have the board's decision and teacher reaction on FOX 11 News at 9 p.m. and KOLD News 13 at 10 p.m.
