During the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 23, the moon will begin to slip behind the Earth's shadow in a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse. This is a partial eclipse so the view of the moon won't be as dramatic as during a full lunar eclipse when the moon turns a blood red color. Only by looking closely at the moon will a person see the difference between a complete full moon and one in this type of lunar eclipse.

According to EarthSky.org "at best, at mid-eclipse, very observant people will notice a dark shading on the moon's face. Others will look and notice nothing at all."
