TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The University of Arizona and Arizona State University on Friday released their tuition proposals for the 2016-17 academic year.

Arizona is proposing tuition and fees totaling $11,769 for incoming students who are Arizona residents. This is an increase of $366 (3.2 percent) over the current rate. Non-residents would be asked to pay $34,967 beginning in the fall of 2016. That would represent a $2,337 (7.2 percent) increase.

Only new UA students and a small percentage of seniors will be affected by the proposed increases, according to UA Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Dr. Andrew Comrie. A majority of students -- 78 percent -- are in the guaranteed tuition program and will not be affected.

Their tuition and fee amounts are locked in for 8 semesters.

UA's complete proposal is available HERE.

Arizona State and Northern Arizona also released their plans to the Arizona Board of Regents on Friday, March 18.

ASU is raising it rates for resident undergraduates $200 ($9,484 to $9,684) and $1,000 for non-resident undergrads ($24,784 to $25,784).

The Arizona Board of Regents will host public hearings from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29. The UA main campus hearing site will be the Gallagher Theater in the Student Union Memorial Center. The UA South site in Sierra Vista will be in the Academic Technology Building, Room 220.

University presidents will present their proposals in person to the Board of Regents on March 31.

The regents will vote on the tuition proposals April 7.
