UA medical students learn their residency programs
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Cheers and shouts echoed from Banner University Medical Center's auditorium on Friday, March 18, as this year's graduating medical students found out where they'll continue their training.
It was where 2016's University of Arizona College of Medicine graduating class had its Match Day - the culmination of a year-long process to match students with a residency program of their preference.
Two UA medical school graduates, who are engaged to be married, also spent their undergraduate years at the UA. Both will continue their training at the UA College of Medicine - Tucson.
"We're really excited. We had no idea. It was a complete surprise to us," said Jeff Robertson, who will do a four-year residency in anesthesiology.
"We knew we matched together but we didn't know what city and we're so happy to get our first choice, Tucson," said Whitney Burns, who will undergo a three-year residence in emergency medicine.
Most residencies will begin on July 1.
The UA College of Medicine - Tucson offers 60 residencies and fellowships.
