PIMA COUNTY, AZ ( Tucson News Now) - The Pima County Sheriff's Department is hosting a free Rape Aggression Defense class for any county resident.

The two-day class is scheduled for Saturday, March 5 and Saturday, March 12.

R.A.D. is designed to teach and empower women ages 12 and older to fight against sexual assaults and attacks. Instructors will show students defense training aimed at awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, as well as the basics of hands-on defense training.

The program is funded by a grant from the Department of Justice.

According to the Bureau of Justice Statics, women 18-24 who are enrolled in college are three times more likely than women in general to suffer from sexual violence.
