TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - We will soon know more about how far the Tucson Unified School District has come, what it is like right now, and what is planned for its future.

TUSD superintendent H.T. Sanchez will give his state of the district speech on Monday, Feb. 22. It starts at 6 p.m. in Tucson High School's auditorium.

New this year, the district is inviting parents to a resource fair an hour before he speaks at 5 p.m.

"Sometimes it can be challenging to get a hold of someone during the day on the phone," said TUSD spokeswoman, Stefanie Boe. "So this will be a great opportunity to come meet one-on-one with district leadership. If you have a question that you haven't been able to get answered or you just don't know where to go, we'll be waiting there for you to come and talk to us," she said.

Boe explained the superintendent will talk about budget issues and how it is affecting the district's aging schools.

He is also expected to bust some myths, especially when it comes to the district's reputation. There are about 7,000 people who work for TUSD and about 48,000 students.

"I think one of the biggest myths is TUSD is not a good place to work," Boe said. "And so we want people in the community to understand that we're trying to transform our system so that it is a place where people love to work."

"We're the fifth largest employer in Pima County, so we're just we're making sure our employees feel valued, respected and they want to be here," Boe said.
