22,000 pounds of chicken sausage recalled
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Misbranding has led to a recall of 22,182 pounds of "al fresco Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage" manufactured by Kayem Foods, Inc. out of Chelsea, MA. The sausage was branded with another product's nutritional information, according to a recent release from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The labels have the wrong nutritional labeling and are encased in pork, which have not been declared on the label, according to FSIS. These casings may lead to allergic reactions in those allergic to pork.
According to the release the chicken sausage items were produced on Nov. 4, 2015; and the following are subject to recall:
- 12-oz. vacuum-packed packages containing “al fresco SWEET APPLE CHICKEN SAUSAGE” bearing identification code “308 BW12 USE/FRZ BY FEB 7, 2016.” The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. P-7839” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.
The problem was discovered after the firm received consumer complaints that the product listed nutritional information for a different product, "al fresco Apple Maple Breakfast" sausages.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to eating of the sausage.
