Nogales police arrest juvenile, seize assault rifles

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Nogales police, in conjunction with other state and federal agencies, arrested a 16-year-old boy and seized 10 assault rifles, ammunition and magazines for the rifles on Friday, Jan. 8.

According to a news release, officers stopped a car driven by the suspect at about 8 a.m. in the area of the 100 block of North West Street.

The suspect, who is a U.S. citizen and resident of Nogales, Sonora, was arrested for being in possession of the firearms and ammunition, police said.

In Arizona, it is illegal for anyone under age 21 to be in possession of an assault rifle. It is also illegal for anyone under age 18 to be in possession of any gun unless it is on their property.

The High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Program has taken over the investigation.
