TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Tucson Police Department's Air Support Unit, which was grounded last month, has been cleared to return to service, according to a department spokesman.

Sgt. Pete Dugan confirmed that the helicopters will return to service Friday night.

The unit was grounded following an audit that recommended changes when in training and safety procedures.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department was available to provide air coverage when needed during the unit's absence. Click here for the Dec. 29 story.
