TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - For those who ordered a Christmas gift online last week, there is a good chance it was delivered Monday, Dec. 21.

Letter carriers from the United States Postal Service have been out since 6:30 a.m. Monday morning placing packages on doorsteps on the busiest day for the post office this year.

Robert Soler from USPS said about 70,000 packages were delivered in Tucson.

Letter carrier Kenny Thompson was in and out of his truck for much of the day, making sure everyone got their Christmas gifts in enough time to put underneath the tree.

He would have been a lot busier if not for Sunday deliveries.

Soler said deliveries on Sunday were up 50 percent from last year.

As Thompson went home to home, he not only delivered packages, but also did his usual mail route.

Suzie Garcia was at home when one of her husband's Christmas gifts arrived.

"We get so may deliveries here because my husband and my son don't like going to the mall to go shopping, so they do a lot of online shopping," she said. "We have that Amazon prime so my husband gets texts from them saying when they will be delivered and he says 'Suzie will you be home, make sure you are home there is a package coming' that kind of thing."

USPS offers real-time delivery notifications.

Customers can sign up for alerts at myusps.com and will receive a notification within a few minutes of the delivery.
