FORT HUACHUCA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Before everyone's caught up with their family traditions for Thanksgiving, some of the men and women who serve our country continued their own event in Southern Arizona.

The Turkey Bowl held Friday night pitted Airmen from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base against the Soldiers stationed at Fort Huachuca for a game of flag football.

"Army versus Air Force is important," said Jamal Young. "Army's better then Air Force."

The Airmen ended up taking home the trophy for the second straight year, but the real winner was the Sierra Vista community.

The event includes a drive for canned goods and toiletries to help stock the shelves of the Chaplain's Food Locker, which serves 300 families in the area.

"Thanksgiving's around the corner and some families don't have, you know, what they need for Thanksgiving so it's kind of important for the Army to give back to the community," said Jerome Smith.

Over 1,000 pounds of food and toiletries was brought in for the community.
