ARIZONA (Tucson News Now) - Arizona is ending its relationship with the private firm that operates the Kingman prison, the site of riots that left nine corrections officers injured and numerous buildings damaged in early July.

According to the KPHO/KTVK, the unrest began July 1 in a minimum-security unit when the private corrections officers tried to stop an inmate-on-inmate assault. A riot broke out the next day in another unit resulting in the damaged housing units and injured officers.

Gov. Doug Ducey on Wednesday said the state will end its long-term contract with Management and Training Corp. due to the findings of a report by the Department of Corrections. The report, which can be read HERE, said the company's "culture of casual indifference toward staff and training" contributed heavily to the riots.
